This adapter does the trick, and coupled with a vacuum is a necessity when doing tuck-pointing. First thing to note is that the whole grinder assembly can be pretty heavy if holding at head-height for a long period of time. I would advise using a step-stool to let you do higher-up work at chest level or below just to reduce fatigue. Also, good lighting of your work is paramount. The guard, by design, pretty well encloses your immediate work and it s difficult to see where your blade is oriented relative to the mortar. The plastic window that s designed to let you see into the work space gets clouded up very quickly, maybe even abraded, so after a short time it obscures your ability to see your blade position. You develop a feel for where your blade is but I frequently had to pull the tool off the wall to check my work because of lost visibility through the window. And this reveals another issue - the guard is spring loaded to retract the blade into the dust cover as you pull the tool away from the wall, but it sticks and binds up. I don t now if some graphite dry lube would help this but it s a problem because one one hand you re not supposed to let the grinder wind down while in contact with the work, but at same time if you pull the assembly away from the wall while blade is still spinning, a fair amount of dust will escape when you break wall contact. So the visibility issue drives a need to pull tool from wall frequently, and a binding of guard s retraction depth adjustment causes dust to escape. I m sure the guard s action could be fixed with some polishing and or lubrication of the metal contact surfaces, but I haven t tried this yet. But these issues are why it s getting three stars instead of five. Also note that using this guard requires you to keep the guard contact surface perpendicular to the wall to minimize escaping dust. I found it helpful to put a bit of gorilla tape on the left side to help containment as probably from operator error would frequently find this end rising off the surface at times. I also ended up having to lock the grinder on my Bosch is the paddle switch kind with a lock at the base and use two hands to compensate for the sticky depth adjustment, which made the work more tiring and less exact. Doing it over, it would have been worth it to make sure the depth adjustment freely moved back and forth without binding before starting the work.
